Inflammatory Bowel Disease Research & Wellness Clinic

Creating the highest standard of care for IBD

Canada has one of the highest rates of inflammatory bowel disease IBD in the world with an estimated 300,000 suffering.

Alberta has one of the world’s highest incidences of IBD with over 20,000 in the province suffering. Over the next decade, the number of people diagnosed with IBD is estimated to increase by 40% in Alberta!

Clinics will be faced with a combination of diagnosing young people while still caring for an aging IBD population, many of whom may present with multiple illnesses as well as the psychological scars related to fear, desperation, uncertainty, embarrassment and maybe even a loss of hope around their longstanding disease.

Help us work towards a better future for IBD Health and Wellness

Our vision is to ensure that Southern Albertans with IBD receive the highest standard of care. This includes timely diagnosis, personalized care, and non-invasive, ongoing monitoring to ensure the disease is always held in check. The Calgary Inflammatory Bowel Disease Research and Wellness Centre will achieve this locally, then regionally, with the ultimate goal to make an impact nationally and even globally. Already, specialists often look to Calgary and their IBD team to lead the charge in revolutionizing the care model.

Once constructed, the IBD Centre will be one of only five major Canadian centers participating in the Crohn’s and Colitis Canada “Promoting Access and Care Through Centres of Excellence” (PACE) Program, allowing them to share knowledge and to elevate the standard of care for Canadians living with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. The ability to centralize IBD specialists and information sharing will significantly impact the patient experience and quality of life for more than 22,000 Albertans currently suffering from IBD and the 1,000 Albertans newly diagnosed each year.
